GREEN LIBRARY SQUARE
I designed the Green Library Square (GLS) in my third year of architecture to be an architectural marvel in the heart of Germiston, South Africa, where sustainability meets creativity.
As an architect with a deep commitment to environmental consciousness and community, I embarked on a transformative journey to design a space that redefines the concept of a public library.
The essence of this project is a simple yet powerful idea to submerge most of the library space below ground to liberate the surface for lush public gardens and open spaces. Here, visitors can escape the hustle and bustle of daily life, immersing themselves in a serene oasis of greenery and tranquility.
GLS encourages a deep connection with nature but also fosters a sense of community, inviting people from all walks of life to gather, read, learn, and connect.
This project embodies my passion for sustainability, meticulous attention to detail, and the belief that architecture can shape not just spaces but also the way we experience our surroundings.
